The Malacañang Palace has declared March 22 as a special non-working holiday in the province of Cavite to celebrate the 154th birth anniversary of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo.
As stated in Proclamation No. 176, it is but fitting and proper that Caviteños “be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies.”
During the Cavite Day, a special program is conducted at Gen. Aguinaldo’s mansion in Kawit to honor the first Philippine president.
Gen. Aguinaldo was born on March 22, 1969 at his house which has since been turned into a shrine. He is one of the prominent revolutionary leaders during the Spanish colonization who also declared the country’s independence on June 12, 1898.
He died on February 6, 1964 due to heart attack at the Veterans Memorial Hospital and was buried in the back garden of his abode.
