The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) has designated Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla as the country’s official chef de mission for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics.
POC President Bambol Tolentino announced on Tuesday that Remulla is set to replace Samahan ng Basketball ng Pilipinas (SBP) President Al Panlilio, who declined the post due to reasonable events.
The POC believes Remulla is capable of handling his new role because he is also the honorary chairman of the rowing association and the team manager of the University of the Philippines (UP) men’s basketball team.
“We understand Al’s situation so we decided to appoint a new CDM for the Paris Olympics, somebody who has a great passion for sports, a true sportsman, somebody who has leadership, a workhorse and that’s Governor Jonvic,” Tolentino said.
“We at the POC are confident that he can get the job done. He’s a true sportsman and very dedicated to helping athletes,” he added.
Remulla, as chef de mission, will be in charge of leading the delegations of the national sporting team at international events such as the Olympics.
