KAWIT, Cavite – Several students showed off their artistic skills as they painted walls of the Aguinaldo Shrine Freedom Park and St. Mary Magdalene Church in Kawit as part of a mural painting contest spearheaded by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

Around 20 Kawiteno students from public and private schools participated in the competition, which aimed to promote the “Sa Pag-iwas sa Sunog, Hindi Ka Nag-iisa” vision of the BFP in celebration of the National Fire Prevention month.

The paintings vividly depict proper precautions and having a plan of action for fire safety techniques at home in times of pandemic.

Lairah de Guzman, a Grade 11 student from Emiliano Tria Tirona Memorial Integrated High School, was hailed as the champion of the competition. Dave Hitta grabbed the second place while Ronniel Danday Pajaron took the third spot.

“As an artist, makikita ng mga taong dumadaan ang mga murals na ginawa namin. Napakahirap masunugan lalo na ngayon na mayroon tayong kinakaharap na pandemya. Mahalagang alam natin ‘yung dapat at hindi dapat paka makaiwas sa sunog kasi buhay rin ‘yung pinag uusapan dito,” de Guzman said in an interview with The Cavite Rising.

All the winners received trophies, framed photos of their murals as tokens, and an amount of P5,000 for the first placer, P4,000 for the second placer, and P3,000 for the third placer. A consolation prize in the amount of P2,000 was also given to the 17 other competitors.

The mural painting contest is only one of the activites held by BFP Kawit in observance of the National Fire Prevention month. The contest strictly followed the COVID-19 health protocols throughout the event.
