1 dead, 5 hurt as vehicles fall off bridge under repair in Tanza

Two vehicles fell off a bridge under repair in Tanza, Cavite, resulting in the death of one passenger and injuring five others.

A woman was killed while five others were injured after two vehicles fell over the Obispo Bridge undergoing repair on the boundary of Barangays Amaya 2 and Sahod Ulan on Antero Soriano Highway in Tanza, Cavite.

The first accident happened on Sunday, 10:55 p.m when a car fell up to five meters deep from the road. The driver, who is suspected to be driving under the influence of alcohol, and two passengers sustained minor injuries.

The second accident occurred a few hours later on Monday, 5:25 a.m. when a van reportedly collided with a row of concrete barriers and then plunged into the river. 

One passenger was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Her two companions, including a minor, suffered minor injuries. 

Meanwhile, the Tanza government extended its condolences to the family and loved ones of the victims.

The Tanza police are also studying whether charges would be filed against the contractor of the bridge for possible lapses.
