LINKod Kabitenyo: What you need to know about the province’s free public WiFi

Caviteños can now enjoy free internet access following the provincial government’s launch of the trial phase of LINKod Kabitenyo’s free WiFi.

Caviteños can now enjoy free internet access following the provincial government’s launch of the trial phase of LINKod Kabitenyo’s free WiFi.

The pre-launch campaign, which ran from December 6 to December 12 in the cities of Bacoor, Imus and Dasmariñas, aimed to evaluate the service based on user feedback and determine whether it will satisfy the province’s goal of providing greater connectivity.

As of this writing, there are 111 active Wi-Fi sites in Bacoor, 118 in Imus, and 114 in Dasmariñas, with 371, 375, and 461 access points, respectively.

How did this project start?

This initiative was launched in 2015 and it has already serviced over 631,700 people in key areas around the province.

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, the provincial government’s efforts to implement the free WiFi project grew more essential in 2020 in order to help the education system and economy.

Just this year, Cavite and telco giant PLDT signed an agreement to expand the LINKod Kabitenyo over the entire province via a Managed Broadband Network service.

Who can use the free public WiFi?

This public WiFi project seeks to provide free internet access to over 3.6 million Caviteños as well as those who visit the province frequently.

For the time being, the provincial government is focusing on the academic community — or students and teachers — to help them overcome some learning gaps under the new normal, but it is still available to everyone.

Users in the priority group can use this for four to five hours per day whereas the general public can access the internet for one hour per day.

Other sectors such as health workers and work-from-home private employees will eventually be granted premium access.

When will free public WiFi be available in my area?

The LINKod Kabitenyo free WiFi network is being implemented in other towns in phases:
