PH posts lowest COVID-19 cases in 2022 so far

The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 2,010 coronavirus infections on Tuesday, February 15, bringing the total number of active COVID-19 infections in the Philippines to 72,305.

The total number of active cases was also the lowest since December 29, 2021, according to DOH. 

Meanwhile, the DOH confirmed 52 more fatalities due to COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 55,146.

Meanwhile, 6,293 more patients survived the disease. Total recoveries are at 3,514,489 which represents 96.5 percent of the country’s total caseload. 

COVID-19 cases are usually high during the first up to second week of January, with a peak at 39,004 last January 15.

Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire on Tuesday said in a press briefing that after weeks of highly contagious Omicron variant fueled the surge in the Philippines, the country is now back at being “low-risk” for the virus. 

The health officials still urged the public to practice physical distancing, especially that campaign season is now happening. They also encourage those not yet vaccinated to get their COVID-19 shots.
