Charges have been formally filed against the son of Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Boying Remulla for alleged possession of suspected “kush” or high-grade marijuana.

Juanito Jose Diaz Remulla III, the eldest son of Remulla, was arrested by authorities last October 11 in Las Pinas City where he had accepted a shipment containing two packets of suspected kush.
The confiscated illegal drugs weigh 937 grams and amount to P1.3-million, according to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The Las Pinas City Prosecutor’s Office filed before the Regional Trial Court (RTC) complaints against the young Remulla last October 14. No bail was recommended.
Specifically, Boying’s son will be facing charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 and the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Meanwhile, DOJ Secretary Boying assured he “will not intervene in nor influence” the case against his son.
“I will respect the justice system, and I wish my son a path to redemption,” he said in a handwritten official statement.
Boying’s brother and Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla, for his part, also vowed to let the judicial process take its course for his nephew.

“Our family is devastated with these developments most especially my 87-year-old mother. We thank everyone for their calls of concern but rest assured that we are on top of the situation and that we shall abide in accordance with the due process of law,” he said in a Facebook post.
Following these developments, calls mounted for Boying’s resignation as Justice Secretary out of delicadeza.
But no less than President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. came to the defense of Boying, saying he sees “no basis” for the latter to step down amid the controversy.
Interestingly, Boying has just defended the government’s campaign against illegal drugs during the 51st Regular Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council last October 5.
Boying, who was a Cavite congressman, also supported proposals to restore death penalty for heinous crimes including drug offense.
