Pormal na inendorso ng Akbayan Party-list ang impeachment complaint laban kay Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Ang reklamo ay inihain ng dating mga opisyal ng gobyerno, civil society group, relihiyosong lider, at pamilya ng biktima ng drug war.
Inakusahan si Duterte ng katiwalian, betrayal of public trust, at iba pang “high crimes.” Ito ang unang impeachment complaint na inihain laban sa isang bise presidente ng bansa.
“The entrenched culture of impunity and graft will only be dismantled when those who perpetuate and profit from it are held to account. This impeachment complaint is but a first step. It must inspire and pave the way for further efforts to bring the Dutertes and their allies before the altar of justice,” saad ni Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña.
“I stand in full support of the brave citizens calling for Duterte to answer for her blatant violations of the Constitution, egregious corruption, and complicity in mass murder,” dagdag pa ng kongresista.
Matatandaang nito lamang nakaraan, naging kontrobersyal ang pahayag ni bise presidente Sara Duterte na naghabilin na siyang patayin si Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr at ilang kaanak niya oras na magtagumpay ang mga banta umano sa kanyang buhay.
Samantala, ilang araw bago ang paghahain ng reklamo, mariing tinutulan ng Pangulo ang impeachment laban kay Duterte. Ayon sa Pangulo, ito ay isang aksyong magsasayang lamang ng oras at hindi magiging kapaki-pakinabang sa taumbayan.
