LOOK: How Cavite prepares for Taal volcano eruption

Some authorities in Cavite province on Thursday began preparations for the possibility of another eruption of the Taal volcano.

Some authorities in Cavite province on Thursday began preparations for the possibility of another eruption of the Taal volcano.

This is after Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised its alert status to Alert Level 3 due to ‘magmatic unrest’ earlier that afternoon.

Cavite Gov. Jonvic Remulla said the province is in close coordination with the local government units near the volcano.

“Nag-umpisa na po ang evacuation preparations ng lalawigan at ng Tagaytay City,” Remulla said on his Facebook post.

“We have enough food stocks to last for 5 days. Over 100 vehicles are being mobilized to help with the evacuation. Antigen test kits are also on standby for the evacuation areas,” he added.

Remulla also suspended the classes in the province in all levels as Taal volcano’s status may disrupt the internet connectivity.

In Alfonso town, several residents of Laurel, Batangas were gathered to undergo contact tracing and antigen tests before they went to their respective evacuation sites.

Town Mayor Randy Salamat said the rescue vehicles are already standing by for possible emergencies.

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Silang and Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo had emergency meetings with their respective disaster response teams to discuss and prepare evacuation plans.

Towns including Indang, Mendez, Amadeo and Magallanes are also among the temporary shelters for evacuees in accordance with the agreed evacuation plan of local chief executives from Cavite and Batangas last March.
