After a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, floats depicting Biblical stories have returned to the streets of Kawit, Cavite for the town’s very own Maytinis Festival on December 24.

Floats depicting biblical stories were exhibited on the streets of Kawit, Cavite.

The word Maytinis is derived from the Latin word “Matins” which means a Christian service of morning prayer.

This one-of-a-kind yearly Christmas Eve tradition highlights humanity’s salvation through a procession of Biblical characters leading up to a musical retelling of Joseph and Mary’s search for a place to stay in Bethlehem.

Aside from Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem, five other floats depicting scenes from the Bible were also exhibited in the streets such as La Purisima Concepcion, Ang Pangako ng Diyos kay Zacarias, Pagbati, and Ang Pagbabalita ng Anghel.

Along with the floats are the marching bands playing Christmas songs, and people portraying payasos, superheroes, and Santa Claus, which made the event more lively.

People wearing costumes joined in the parade.
