GEN. EMILIO AGUINALDO, Cavite – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the local government here unveiled the historical marker of General Emilio Aguinaldo on Tuesday.
This comes 56 years after it was named to honor the first president of the country’s first republic.
ISANG MAKASAYSAYANG ARAW! Ngayong araw po, ay pormal na isinagawa ang Paghahawi ng Tabing ng PANANDANG PANGKASAYSAYAN (Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo y Famy) sa ating bayan. Ito po ang kauna-unahang Historical Marker sa ating bayan. Ang kaganapang ito ay bahagi na ng makulay na kasaysayan ng Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo (Bailen), Cavite. Maraming salamat po kay Exec. Dir. Restituto Aguilar at Commissioner Dr. Manuel Calairo at mga kasama na nagmula sa National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP). Maraming salamat din po kay Vice Mayor Louel Golfo at sa Sangguniang Bayan Members, kay Mam Myra Golfo, ang ating Tourism Officer, at sa lahat ng namahala at nagsaayos upang maging matagumpay ang kaganapang ito. The unveiling ceremony and the signing of the certificate of transfer and acceptance were led by town Mayor Nelia Angeles, Vice Mayor Louel Golfo, NHCP Executive Director Restituto Aguilar, and NHCP Commissioner Emmanuel Calairo in front of the old municipal hall.
Angeles, in her speech, said the character of every resident in the town reflects the heroic life of Gen. Aguinaldo.
“Kagaya niya (Gen. Aguinaldo), ang mga taga-Bailen ay matitikas, matatapang, maprinsipyo at mapagmahal sa pamilya at sa bayan,” Angeles said.
“Hindi po ba isang napakalaking karangalan na mapangalan sa kauna-unanahang president ng republika ng Pilipinas, sa isang bayani at higit sa lahat, sa isang kapwa Kabitenyo,” the town mayor added.
Formerly known as Bailen, this 5th class municipality became Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo in accordance with the Republic Act No. 4346 signed by President Diosdado Macapagal in 1965.
