Trece Martires City tops ‘Chikiting Ligtas’ vax program nationwide

Cavite’s de facto capital was hailed as top performing city nationwide for its mass immunization of children against measles, rubella, and polio.

CAVITE — The city government of Trece Martires was the top performing local government unit (LGU) nationwide for its Measles, Rubella, and Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA), otherwise known as “Chikiting Ligtas” vaccination program.

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Mayor Gemma Lubigan proudly made the announcement as she thanked city healthcare workers for vaccinating 15,146 children against measles and rubella and 17,920 against polio.

“[M]araming Salamat sa lahat ng healthcare workers para sa inyong sakripisyo sa pangunguna ng City Health Office. Kayo po ang pangunahing dahilan kung bakit tayo #1 sa buong Pilipinas para sa adbokasiyang #ChikitingLigtas. Salute!!!,” she wrote.

The first phase of the immunization drive was launched in October to November last year while the second round was conducted in the entire month of February 2021. It covered Metro Manila, Central Luzon, and Calabarzon, and Visayas.

As of April 26, the Department of Health said it has so far vaccinated 8.5 children (90.3 percent of target) against measles-rubella.

Meanwhile, 6 million children (87 percent of target) have been so far inoculated against polio nationwide.
