The city government of Trece Martires has devised a scheme to encourage residents to protect the environment by separating recyclable materials from their waste in exchange for kilos of rice.

The city government of Trece Martires has devised a scheme to encourage residents to protect the environment by separating recyclable materials from their waste in exchange for kilos of rice.

On Thursday, the LGU launched its “Lingap Kalikasan: Bote, Plastic Palit Bigas” program, in which every three kilograms of recyclable materials is equal to two kilograms of rice.

Mayor Gemma Lubigan spearheaded the trash-for-rice program in Brgy. Inocencio, in collaboration with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and other city officials.

Lubigan thanked the Trece Martires legislative body, led by Vice Mayor Bobby Montehermoso, as well as some civil society and volunteer groups, for this type of initiative.
