Dasma teen chessers to vie in FIDE World Chess Cup

Two chess wizards from Dasmariñas, Cavite will represent the country in a global chess competition slated August this year.

International Masters Daniel Quizon and Michael Concio Jr. earned the coveted slots to compete in the FIDE World Cup chess tournament in Minsk, Belarus on August 1-28.

The two young chessers from Dasmariñas, Cavite secured their berths after topping the Asian Zonal 3.3 Chess Championships last May 9.

It was a draw between Quizon, 16, and Indonesian Grandmaster Susanto Megaranto while Concio, 15, defeated Indonesian Grandmaster Novendra Priasmoro.

Dasmariñas Representative Pidi Barzaga, who has been sponsoring the training of the chess athletes, proudly shared the news in a Facebook post as he congratulated them and thanked their coaches.

Meanwhile, Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna and International Master Paulo Bersamina are also set to represent the country in the global chess competition.

Frayna will play in the women’s edition in historic first while Bersamina will join Quizon and Concio in the men’s edition of the same event.
