2 DSWD-CALABARZON officials relieved over ‘Paeng’ aid distribution

The DSWD-Calabarzon regional director and assistant director have been relieved from their posts following complaints from Mayor Dino Chua, the local chief executive of Paeng-hit Cavite town Noveleta.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin Tulfo said he relieved two officials in the agency’s Region 4-A office amid the investigation over complaints on the distribution of aid for tropical storm ‘Paeng’ victims in Cavite.

In a press briefing last November 3, Tulfo said he made such a decision to give way to an ongoing probe following the allegations of Noveleta, Cavite Mayor Dino Reyes-Chua regarding aid distribution for Paeng-hit residents.

Kaya ko rin sila nilagay sa Office of the Secretary para hindi maimpluwensyahan ‘yong conduct of our investigation, said Tulfo.

Chua claimed local DSWD personnel asked his constituents for “too many documents” so they could get financial assistance.

DSWD Assistant Secretary Marites Maristela will temporarily lead the regional office according to Tulfo.

The DSWD chief added that Chua is also conducting his own investigation on the matter and they will exchange the results of their probes.

To recall, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. led last October 31 the distribution of relief goods and cash assistance together with some local officials in Noveleta.
