Cavite 7th District Rep. Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla has accepted the offer of presumptive president-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to be the next Justice Secretary.
“It’s an honor to serve the country in that capacity and it’s a duty when called upon to serve with all our abilities, training, background, experiences para makatulong sa bansa. It’s a very rare opportunity to a lawyer like us,” Remulla told reporters on Monday via zoom.

Remulla also said that he has no idea that he was being considered to lead the DOJ under the upcoming administration.
“We were already talking about the problems of the country at that time. So basically… at that time wala pa siya… I have no idea that I was being considered or whatsoever. I didn’t apply for the job,” Remulla said.
“Pero ang gusto niyang mangyari.. sabi niya nga, ‘we cannot afford to fail, we have to do a good job,’ ‘yun lang. He has no other intention but to do the best job possible for the people,” he added
Possible vacancy of the seat
Remulla’s acceptance of the DOJ post would result in a vacancy of his seat in the House of Representatives.
On the same day, Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner George Garcia said that a possible vacant seat would result in a special election or appointment of a “caretaker” in the 7th District of Cavite.
“In which case, dalawa ang mangyayari diyan, either mag-special election or ang kalimitang nangyayari mayroong caretaker na isang kalapit na distrito,” he explained to the reporters.
“Whatever Congress decides, the COMELEC is so prepared to conduct special election that particular district. We will wait for the Congress if the Congress will say ‘we will fill up the position, conduct a special election’..we will conduct,” he added.
Remulla ran unopposed and won his re-election bid in the recent May 2022 elections.
