A bill seeking to grant P15,000 funeral package to indigent Filipinos has been filed by Cavite First District Representative Jolo Revilla at the House of Representatives last August 16.
The proposed “Indigent Funeral Package Act” or the House Bill (HB) No. 3678 mandates all funeral parlors and services in the country to include an “indigent funeral package” for poor families.
This legislative measure wants to provide deceased Filipinos decent burial services in less expense to their family members.
“Kabilang sa package na ito ang pagkuha’t pagsasaayos sa bangkay, pagkakaroon ng kabaong, at pagkakaloob ng serbisyo sa pagbuburol at paghahatid sa huling hantungan,” Revilla said in his Facebook post.
Revilla also said that families usually ask for financial help from the local government unit and from the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, but this financial aid can’t still suffice for them.
“Nilalayon rin ng panukalang batas na maiwasan ang posibleng pang-aabuso ng mga punerarya at mabigyan ng disente at maayos na libing ang mga yumaong mahal sa buhay ng mahihirap nating kababayan, sa presyo at serbisyo na kaya ng pamilyang namatayan,” he added.
