While most people think Valentine’s Day is only for couples, the Salinas Gays Association (SAGA) doesn’t think so. For them, it is the perfect occasion to show love and spend quality time with the elderlies.

For this year, SAGA celebrated the occasion by holding their Kalinga Para Kay Lolo at Lola project where they gave free makeovers to more than 500 senior citizens from three barangays of Rosario.

In an interview with The Cavite Rising, SAGA president Romer Almario said that during the pandemic, it is easy for people to dismiss little things such as going to salons to treat themselves.
This pushed them to offer total makeovers to some senior citizens. Among the services they offered them were haircuts, manicure, pedicure, hair color, and spa.

“Nakakagaan po ng kalooban na makitang pagkatapos namin silang ayusan, i-manicure-pedicure, kulayan ng buhok, masaya po sila,”

“Natutuwa po kami. Kahit ganito lang ang tingin ng ibang tao sa amin, may naitutulong kami sa komunidad lalo na sa bayan ng Rosario.”
Almario also shared that what they are doing is completely voluntary.
Meanwhile, Rosario Sangguniang Bayan member Bamm Gonzales also showed her support for SAGA’s Valentine activity. She donated to them a couple of materials for their project.

“Nakakatuwa na makita na active sila sa ganito. This is a way of them giving back their talents to the community. They are not the discriminations they get, they are more than what society thinks about them,” Gonzales said.
As simple as it may seem, this project is a big initiative for the members of SAGA as they let themselves and the senior citizens feel that Valentine’s Day is for everyone.
