ECQ extended in Cavite, other areas for another week

Cavite will retain its enhanced community quarantine status until April 11, unless lifted or further extended.

The Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) status in Cavite and several other areas will be further extended until April 11 to control the recent spike of COVID-19 infections, Malacañang announced on April 3.

President Rodrigo Duterte has approved the pandemic task force’s recommendation to keep Cavite, Bulacan, Laguna, Rizal and Metro Manila under strict lockdown for another week, said his spokesperson Harry Roque on Saturday.

Both the Department of Health and the independent OCTA Research group supported the one-week extension of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in ‘NCR Plus’ areas believing that it could help slow down the spread of the highly-contagious virus.

Cavite and its nearby provinces were put under ECQ since March 29, just a week after its shift to general community quarantine bubble with additional restrictions. To date, the Philippines has tallied 784,043 COVID-19 cases, including 13,423 deaths and 604,905 recoveries. This means ill patients are currently at 165,715 which is at least 21 percent of the total case count.
