Cavite’s COVID-19 reproduction now on downward trend, says OCTA

CAVITE — The reproduction number of COVID-19 cases in the province of Cavite is now at 0.87 as of September 22, indicating that virus transmission is declining, OCTA Research group said Thursday.

According to OCTA Research Professor Guido David, the weekly growth rate in Cavite and other high-risk areas such as Metro Manila, Laguna, Bulacan, Cebu City, and Davao City continue to fall, with negative growth rates and reproduction numbers below one.

From September 15 to 21, the province recorded an average of 1,238 new daily cases, a 20% or approximately 310 cases decrease from the previous week’s total.

David stated that the decrease in COVID-19 cases began when the NCR was placed under modified enhanced community quarantine, but that improvements were also seen as a result of the implementation of granular lockdowns.

However, hospital bed occupancy and ICU utilization in the province remain at moderate to high risk level.

As of September 23, Cavite has reported 106,075 total COVID-19 cases, 18,776 of which are active, 84,874 are already recovered, and 2,425 died.
