After a lengthy break due to the pandemic, Caviteños once again witnessed the ‘Live Via Crucis’ on Holy Tuesday, April 4.
The Live Via Crucis, or the dramatization of the Way of the Cross, is a Lenten tradition in Cavite City wherein performers reenact the passion of Christ in the streets through the 14 Stations of the Cross.

This year is the 46th time that the Live Via Crucis was held after it was paused for two years because of the COVID-19 restrictions.
The event began at the San Roque Church with a reenactment of the Last Supper, followed by scenes from Jesus’ prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane and His trial in the city park.

Other scenes were performed along the streets and ended up in Cavite City’s football field, where the reenactment of the crucifixion, death and resurrection of Christ happened.
The Live Via Crucis tradition was first performed in 1974 after the former parish priest and the pastoral team of the San Roque Church conceptualized a way to show the faithful in the city the true meaning of Holy Week.
