In his third State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that his administration is focused on advancing digitalization and promoting solar-powered electricity to bridge the digital gap among learners.
“As we relentlessly address the classroom gap, the digital gap must also be bridged in equal intensity,” he said.
He pledged to equip students with computers, smart TVs, essential software, digital books, and reliable power and internet access.
“Digitalization and solar-powered electricity must now be the standard features in our schools and in our classrooms. Simply put, this is educational reform through technology,” the President said.
Marcos also said that the perennial problem surrounding textbooks shall be resolved.
“The production of instructional materials, especially textbooks which are up to date and error free, must be ensured. The whole process from approval of manuscript to procurement, all the way to distribution will be cut short from its present three years to just one year,” he said.
In addition, the President challenged newly-appointed Education Secretary Sonny Angara to lead the efforts in uplifting the quality of education in the country.
“Ito ngayon ang magiging hamon sa ating bagong kalihim na tiyakin ang pagbangon at pagtaas ng kalidad ng edukasyon sa bansa sa lalong madaling panahon,” he added.
