Cavite will revert to general community quarantine (GCQ) with ‘heightened restrictions’ starting from August 1 to 15, amid looming threat from the more virulent Delta coronavirus variant.
Metro Manila will also stay under such type of lockdown during the same period, along with other ‘NCR Plus’ areas such as Bulacan, Laguna, and Rizal.
Earlier, Cavite was placed under the regular GCQ until the end of July. The province still has active carriers of the virus as of posting.
These quarantine classifications were announced by presidential and pandemic task force spokesperson Harry Roque on Wednesday, July 28.
Other quarantine classifications
The following areas will be put under enhanced community quarantine (ECQ), the strictest among all forms of lockdown, from August 1-7:
- Iloilo City
- Iloilo Province
- Cagayan de Oro City
- Gingoog City
Areas under the more stringent modified ECQ from August 1 to 15 are as follows:
- Ilocos Norte
- Bataan
- Lapu-Lapu City
- Mandaue City
Aside from the capital region and its four adjacent provinces, these areas will also be under GCQ with ‘heightened restrictions’ from August 1 to 15:
- Lucena City
- Ilocos Sur
- Cagayan
- Naga City
- Antique
- Aklan
- Bacolod City
- Capiz
- Negros Oriental
- Zamboanga del Sur
- Misamis Oriental
- Davao City
- Davao del Norte
- Davao de Oro
- Davao Occidental
- Butuan City
Moreover, regular GCQ will be imposed on the following areas from August 1 to 31:
- Baguio City
- Apayao
- Cordillera Administrative Region
- Santiago City
- Isabela
- Nueva Vizcaya
- Quirino
- Quezon
- Batangas
- Puerto Princesa
- Guimaras
- Negros Occidental
- Zamboanga Sibugay
- Zamboanga City
- Zamboanga del Norte
- Davao Oriental
- Davao del Sur
- General Santos City
- Sultan Kudarat
- Sarangani
- North Cotabato
- South Cotabato
- Agusan del Norte
- Surigao del Norte
- Agusan del Sur
- Dinagat Islands
- Surigao del Sur

Meanwhile, the rest of the country will be under modified GCQ, the most relaxed form of community quarantine, for the entire month of August.
The Philippines has so far reported 1, 572, 287 COVID-19 cases of whom 56, 273 remain active, 1, 488, 437, have recovered, while 27, 577 have died.
