Cavite under signal no. 2 as ‘Dante’ maintains strength

Under signal no. 2, Cavite and other areas will soon experience 61-120 kph winds that may cause damage to high – risk structures, and down old wooden electric posts.

State weather bureau PAGASA hoisted Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no. 2 over Cavite and neighboring provinces on Tuesday morning as tropical storm Dante maintained its strength while moving towards southern Luzon.

The country’s 4th tropical cyclone this year was last spotted northwestern coastal waters of Romblon, Romblon or 115 km southeast of Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro as of 10 a.m., PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. weather bulletin.

The tropical storm continues to move west-southwestward at 20 kilometers per hour, heading to the eastern coast of Oriental Mindoro. 

It still has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts of up to 90 kph.

Under signal no.2, winds of greater 60 to 120 kph may be expected in at least 24 hours or intermittent rains may be expected within 24 hours.

Dante is forecast to maintain its strength until it makes landfall over mainland Luzon. 

PAGASA added further land interaction will weaken it into a tropical depression Wednesday night.
