Ex-Cavite Governor ‘Ayong’ passes away

Former Gov. Erineo ‘Ayong’ Maliksi passed away on Feb. 24, 2021, family confirms.

Former Cavite Governor Erineo “Ayong” Maliksi has passed away.

Imus Mayor Emmanuel Maliksi confirmed the sad news on Wednesday evening through a Facebook post although he did not reveal the cause of his father’s death.

Mayor Maliksi lamented on ex-Gov. Ayong’s legacy as a public servant as well as a caring father for their family.

“Alam ko, at ramdam kong nariyan ka at patuloy na gagabay sa amin. Mula noon, at hanggang ngayon… Paalam, Daddy,” said Mayor Maliksi as he bid farewell to his father.

Governor Ayong’s political career

Born Erineo Saquilayan Maliksi, the politician served under different positions in the city government of Imus and the provincial government of Cavite.

He was the mayor of Imus from 1988 to 1998 and he also served as a representative of Cavite in the Congress from 1998 to 2001, and from 2010 to 2013.

He served for three terms as governor of Cavite from 2001 to 2010 where he gained his famous moniker “Gov. Ayong.”

Outside of Cavite’s political realm, Gov. Ayong was also appointed by former President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino III as the chairman of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office from 2015 to 2016.
