Marcos-Duterte tandem draws huge crowd in GenTri

In an apparent effort to shatter Vice President Leni Robredo’s recent grand rally in General Trias, Governor Jonvic Remulla organized a campaign sortie for Bongbong Marcos Jr. in the same venue as Robredo’s for a strong show of force and to display his clan’s political influence.

Presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and running mate Inday Sara Duterte-Carpio returned to vote-rich Cavite on March 22, gathering 100,000 supporters in their behemoth rally at the General Trias Sports Complex.

Governor Jonvic Remulla, who has endorsed Marcos’ and Duterte’s bids, said he invited them to come back to the province because “Cavite has something to prove.”

Marcos’ archrival Vice President Leni Robredo also held a campaign rally that drew a mammoth crowd of 47,000 at the same venue on March 4.

When asked if the similar choice of venue was intentional, Remulla told reporters: “It’s not a pissing contest but the Cavite is the epicenter of Philippine politics. Where Cavite goes, the country goes.”

Their supporters arrived at the stadium as early as noon and endured the blazing heat of the sun. The Cavite Rising asked some of the attendees why they would vote for Marcos Jr.

Seemingly a reference to Remulla’s promise of delivering 800,000 votes in Cavite for the former senator, a tarpaulin was placed in the bleachers that reads “800k plus one…”

Before meeting their supporters in General Trias, the tandem attended a mini-event in Dasmariñas City and met with barangay officials in Tagaytay City.

Marcos won against Robredo in Cavite by over 150,000 votes in the 2016 elections. Cavite is the second province with the largest number of voters next to Cebu.
