Meet the contenders in Cavite for the 2022 elections

Here is an unofficial list of political aspirants in Cavite who filed their certificates of candidacy from October 1 to 8, 2021.

Let the battle begin.

The eight-day period for the filing of certificates of candidacy (COC) is now closed, making the names of those vying for local posts in Cavite for the coming May 2022 elections clearer.

While the Commissions of Elections (Comelec) has yet to release the official list of candidates, The Cavite Rising monitored individuals who have filed their COCs from October 1 to 8, 2021.

Get to know who will be running for elective positions in the province in next year’s polls:

For Governor and Vice Governor

Reelectionist Governor Jonvic Remulla and running mate Tagaytay City councilor Athena Tolentino were the first to make submissions on the first day of the filing of COC.

Remulla is a new member of the National Unity Party and a longtime leader of the local Partido Magdalo. He has been Cavite’s governor since 2019 and has also previously held the position from 2010 to 2016.

Independent candidates Edwina Aguinaldo and Augusto Pera Jr. will challenge Remulla for the province’s top post.

On the other hand, the young Tolentino is the daughter of Tagaytay City Mayor Agnes Tolentino and Cavite 8th District Representative Bambol Tolentino.

If elected, Athena would become Cavite’s first female vice governor. The newbie politician will go against Rolando Anacan Sr. of the Philippine Green Republican Party and independent bet Joseph Jamboy.
