A public high school teacher in Kawit, Cavite is going the extra mile, both literally and figuratively, to bring distance learning to her students closer.
Dr. Annie Assong, a music, arts, physical education, and health teacher in Emiliano Tria Tirona Memorial National High School, was hailed as the winner of #PadyaKawit which was launched by the local government coinciding the celebration of the National Teachers’ Month.
The teacher’s winning entry was a photo of her posing at the Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo Shrine with her bike that she uses to personally deliver learning modules to her students.
This has been the usual routine of Assong as schools shift to distance learning after face-to-face classes have been suspended due to COVID-19 since last year.
Her heartwarming story wowed thousands of social media users and even Mayor Angelo Aguinaldo who declared her as the “deserving” winner of the online contest.
“Sa totoo lang po, nang nagbo-browse ako ng mga entry, talagang natuwa po ako at naantig… Tunay pong nakaaantig at nakabibilib ang kaniyang dedikasyon para sa edukasyon ng kabataang Kawiteño,” wrote Aguinaldo in a Facebook post.
Assong’s original Facebook post has so far garnered more than 1,300 reactions and hundreds of comments mostly coming from her former and current students honoring her dedication to her profession.
Indeed, teachers like her are modern-day heroes for making such sacrifices for students en route to a good future.
