DPWH eyes construction of Bataan-Cavite bridge in Q1 2024

The P175 billion inter-island bridge connecting Cavite and Bataan is moving closer to realization, with its construction targeted to begin in the first quarter of 2024.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it is planning to start the construction of the highly-anticipated Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge in the first quarter of 2024.

This projection is according to a Manila Standard report quoting DPWH Undersecretary Emil Sadain.

“This mammoth project is a priority project under the Marcos administration’s Build, Better, More (BBM) program that aims to boost the country’s economic growth through increased investments in public infrastructure. It is only under this administration that this project was finally realized,” Sadain was quoted as saying.

The project’s detailed engineering design is now 55 percent complete and is targeted to be finished by the first quarter of 2023.

The 32-kilometer cable-stayed bridge connecting Bataan and Cavite is expected to reduce travel time from five hours to 20 to 30 minutes once completed.

This four-lane permanent link, currently being built along Manila Bay, is hoped to ease traffic congestion in Metro Manila, particularly for motorists traveling from Central Luzon provinces to the Southern Tagalog region or vice versa.

The alignment will run from the Timalan Balsahan shoreline in Naic, Cavite to the Alas-Asin land area in Mariveles, Bataan, passing through the vicinity of Corregidor Island.
