Body of alleged hazing victim found in Imus

Police found the body of Adamson University student John Matthew Salilig, who allegedly died due to hazing, at a vacant lot in Imus City, Cavite more than a week after he went missing.

The lifeless body of an Adamson University student who allegedly died due to hazing was found buried at a vacant lot in Brgy. Malagasang 1-G in Imus City, Cavite last February 28.

John Matthew Salilig, a third-year chemical engineering student, went missing on the same day he attended the welcoming rites of a fraternity in Laguna according to the initial investigation of Biñan police.

The victim’s brother confirmed his identity.

Salilig’s remains were brought to a funeral home in Dasmariñas City to undergo forensic examination.

In a statement posted on their official Facebook page, the administration of Adamson University extended its condolences to the victim’s family.

The university also said it has launched its own investigation and is already working with authorities to help resolve the case.

Meanwhile, the alleged master initiator surrendered before Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla last March 1. He was then turned over to Cavite Police Director Col. Christopher Olazo.

The police have identified at least 15 persons of interest, six of whom already underwent inquest proceedings for allegedly violating Republic Act No. 11053 or the Anti-Hazing Act.
