Cavite Governor Jonvic Remulla on Thursday slammed government officials who have been exchanging tirades while the country is still grappling with the coronavirus pandemic.
Remulla said families are hardly hit by the problems posed by COVID-19, so it is ill-timed for government officials to mock each other.
“Mahirap man o mayaman lahat ay may pinagdaraanan. Sa mga pagsubok na kinakaharap nating lahat ngayon, I think kindness and empathy will go a long way to ease each other’s pain and suffering,” he said in a Facebook post.

The governor then took swipes at government officials who supposedly waste their time engaging in “cheap talk and senseless arguments” as he advised them to focus on solving the country’s pressing issues instead.
“Kailan pa nagbigay linaw ang panglalait at pang-iinsulto para lamang makaiwas sa mga isyung kailangan ng kasagutan?” he added.
Remulla did not specify the names of government officials he was referring to, but President Rodrigo Duterte recently mocked Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, Senator Richard Gordon, and Senator Panfilo Lacson.
“Una may tinawag na parang callboy daw ang imahe. Kasunod nito ang pagpuna sa isang mambabatas na kailangan daw magpapayat. At may patutsadahang pang ‘hairdo’ vs. ‘matandang paurong,’” he said.
“Parang ang daming oras sa mga walang kwentang bagay. Wag po sana nating kalimutan na pera ng bayan ang pinangsusweldo sa ating mga Serbisyo Publiko,” the governor continued.
Remulla also earlier defended Moreno from critics bringing up his past showbiz career after President Duterte’s apparent allusion to the capital city’s local chief executive.
It can be recalled that Remulla and Moreno traded barbs April this year over the latter’s comments on relocated residents from Manila seeking pandemic cash aid in Naic, Cavite. The two mended ties later according to the governor.

Moreno is ranking second to third in pre-election surveys on the possible presidential candidates in the 2022 general elections. Remulla supported then-Davao mayor Duterte in his 2016 presidential race.
